CAPHARNAUM, dir. Nadine Labaki
In the neglected part of Beirut, 12-year-old Zain lives with his parents and several siblings. He does
physical labor at a shop owned by a man who plans to marry his younger sister. Every day, he argues
with adults and watches sadly as a van takes his peers to school. In the end, the entire situation ends
up in court. Zain is suing his parents for the fact that he was born. There are many kids like him -
systemically neglected, deprived of childhood, cut off from education. Nadine Labaki, the director of
Carmel, does not limit herself to a simple observation of childhood misfortune, she also does not
use cheap tricks (i.e. the narration from a child's perspective) to play on the emotions of the
viewers. By watching Zain's everyday life, we are involved in a penetrating social drama. However,
following its urban wanderings, we watch the moving road movie. Capernaum not only evokes anger
at the world's injustice, but also guarantees true tears of emotion.

PARDON, dir. Jan Jakub Kolski
after the screening Q&A session with Jan Jakub Kolski
Set in the realities of post-war Poland, the film tells the story of mourning parents setting off on their
last journey with their son, as seen from the point of view of their grandson Jan. The son of Hanna
and Jacob, a Home Army soldier Wacław "Odrowąż" Szewczyk, is shot by the secret police in the
autumn of 1946. After suffering a series of humiliations by the new authorities, who continuously
desecrate their child’s corpse, Hanna and Jacob decide to provide their son with a proper burial in
the Pacławska Calvary, 500 km away. Their venture through Poland - a country still haunted by the
post-war nightmare, becomes a metaphorical journey into the depths of the human soul and an
attempt to reorder the world in which neighbors turn against each other, and where one’s current
enemy may become an unexpected ally.

TOUCH ME NOT, dir. Adina Pintilie
Awarded with the Golden Bear at the Berlinale "Touch Me Not" is an ode to the human body and related desires, and above all - this is a call for acceptance of otherness. Adina Pintilie tests in her film the therapeutic potential of touch, the exposing of the body and emotions, and she is accompanied by three heroes. Each of them faces things which block them, limit them, terrify them in front of the camera. While observing the relationships between them, Pintilie poses questions about how we understand "intimacy", "beauty", "relationships" or "lust." In times when bodies - even of women or of the disabled - have become the field of ideological battle, nakedness turns out to be a manifestation of freedom.

CONCERTO FOR TWO, dir. Tomasz Drozdowicz (75 min)
after the screening Q&A session with Tomasz Drozdowicz
Jerzy Maksymiuk. A conductor, a composer, a pianist. At 80 fully active or – to many – excessively active. Demanding of himself and others, never slowing down, merciless to poor performers, still fascinated by music and focused on his scores till it borders madness. Loved by the eminent, but irritating to and disliked by hack musicians. Privately, he continues to be a lad from the small-town wooden house, true friend of the “excluded” park-bench regulars with whom he shares all he has.
A charismatic “maestro” admired in London, Glasgow and Paris, totally helpless in everyday life without his wife’s assistance and direction.
