Łukasz Simlat was born in 1977. He is a graduate of the Aleksander Zelwerowicz National Academy of Dramatic Art in Warsaw. In 2007, he started working at the Zygmunt Hubner Powszechny Theatre, and in the years 2012-2016 at the STUDIO Theatre Gallery. He has won numerous awards for his artistic and theatrical achievements. He made his screen début in 2000, playing a supporting character in the TV series Dom. He continued to play more important roles in full-length films and TV series for a period of time (for example in Warszawa or Oficer). He has created memorable characters in many feature films, such as: We’re All Christs (directed by Marek Koterski), Hania (directed by Janusz Kamiński), Lynch (directed by Krzysztof Łukasiewicz), Courage (directed by Greg Zgliński), United States of Love (directed by Tomasz Wasilewski; in 2016, the film brought him an award for best supporting role), Amok (directed by Kasia Adamik; in 2017, the film brought him the Golden Lion Award at the Gdynia Film Festival for best supporting male character), The Butler (directed by Filip Bajon), 7 Emotions (directed by Marek Koterski), The Fugue (directed by Agnieszka Smoczyńska; the film brought him an award for best male character at the New Horizons Film Festival in Wrocław). Two other films featuring Łukasz Simlat have recently hit cinemas, i.e. (Nie)znajomi (directed by Tadeusz Śliwa) and Corpus Christi (directed by Jan Komasa), the latter of which is the Polish candidate for Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category. Żelazny most (directed by Monika Młodzianowska), in which Łukasz Simlat has played one of the leading roles, will have its cinema première in the near future.

A poet, painter, media artist, writer and director. Working internationally, he builds his visions in his paintings, films, installations, novels, theatre and opera stagings. He studied at Krakow Academy of Fine Arts and graduated from the National Film School in Łódź, Poland. His credits include such films as: The Knight, Prisoner of Rio, Basquiat, Wojaczek, Angelus, The Garden of the Earthly Delights, Glass Lips, The Milll & the Cross and Onirica. Presented in festivals at Toronto, New York, Rio de Janeiro, Jerusalem, Moscow, Berlin, Venice and Cannes, his films received numerous prizes. His video, film and art works have been shown in a variety of galleries and museums around the world, including: Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume, Paris; Whitechapel Art Gallery, London; Museo des Belles Artes, Buenos Aires; Image Forum, Tokyo; Tel-Aviv Museum of Art; The National Gallery, London; The Prado, Madrid; Art Institute of Chicago; The Louvre and at the Venice Biennale. The Museum of Modern Art in New York honored him with an individual retrospective entitled "Lech Majewski: Conjuring the Moving Image". His installation Blood of a Poet took part in the 52nd Venice Biennale and his Retrospective that originated at MoMA travelled to the museums around the world. His videoart cycle Bruegel Suite premiered at the Louvre and was exhibited at the 54th Venice Biennale. He lectures at various universities and colleges around the world, including Canterbury University in New Zealand, Harvard and Berkeley in US and Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, Italy. He is a member of Director Guild of America and the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

A director and screenwriter. A graduate in Direction from the Krzysztof Kieślowski Radio and Television Department at the at the University of Silesia in Katowice. A scholarship holder of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. A member of the Polish and European Film Academy. After studying, as part of the television series Generation 2000, he directed MOJE MIASTO (2002). The film was presented at many important festivals, including: Karlovy Vary IFF, Toronto IFF, Palm Springs IFF, Paris IFF. It won several awards - among others Special Jury Award at the XXVII Polish Feature Film Festival in Gdynia, the Silver Dragon for the best feature film at 43. International Krakow Film Festival, Super Amber for the debut of the decade on 26. "Młodzi i Film" Koszalin Film Debut Festival. In 2010, he produced and directed the feature film "Erratum". The film has won several awards, among which the most important are: the Main Award at the Warsaw Film Festival in section 1-2, the Award for the best screenplay at the Thessaloniki International Festival, the Special Jury Award at the Pusan International Film Festival, the Gold Plaque at the Chicago International Film Festival, Tofifest Festival Main Award, the Journalists' Festival Award Polish Feature Films in Gdynia, or the annual award of journalists "Golden Tape". In the years 2012–2015 he directed series for HBO, such as: "Bez tajemnic" / series 2 - Antek therapy /, "Bez tajemnic" / series 3 - Małgorzata's therapy / and "Pakt" / series 1 - independently /. INTERIOR (2019) is his latest feature film.
